Can this PSU be used in an Inspiron 531?

HI whalecommando, If you have the ATX type case, then there will be no problem.

well its atx, so i guess everything will be fine and dandy. I just need to be sure it fits and the screws all line up, etc.

According to this web site http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=dellconverter, its not that simple. Dell chooses to be annoying and use custom designed power supplies. This means that standard atx psus will not work. There are companies that make psus specifically of the dell upgrade market. Pc power & cooling makes the silencer 500 dell, for example.
