DELL BIOS for XPS 435MT does not have AHCI option

HI

I have a DELL XPS 435MT with the newest BIOS update an I cannot find the option in the BIOS

to use AHCI for my hard drive. I have a 1TB Seagate SATA hard drive connected and the only option I

see in the BIOS are RAID or SATA.

Is it just me - or is there something missing ?

Mike

I have a 2 TB seagate HD hoping to connect it to my XPS 435MT.

Will the ATA option slow performance?

SATA is AHCI otherwise there would be an ATA option.

Yes somewhat but that does not appear to be an issue with the 435 as it only lists Raid or SATA as controller options.

I set my BIOS SATA setting to RAID, even though I have 2 independent (non-RAID) SATA drives and 2 independent external SATA drives. I then installed the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager from the Intel website, which combined with the RAID setting in the BIOS enabled AHCI on all 4 of my SATA drives. Besides noticeably higher speed, I now have hot-swapping on the eSATA port as well as the SATA port I use for the second external drive (I do use the Safely Remove Hardware icon rather than just pull the drive, of course).
