Dell 435mt frequent BSOD crashes

Hello,

About 3-4 months ago I bought a new Studio 435mt specifically for gaming.  Within the first month or so, I started to experience freeze-ups and computer crashes, usually when playing World of Warcraft.

I upgraded to Windows 7 hoping for better stability, but since then the crashes have been much more frequent, happening 1-2 times per day.  Also, since moving to Windows 7, most of the crashes have been the "Blue Screen of Death" variety.  I tried updating all the drivers, but this did not help.  I also scanned the memory for problems, but did not find any.

Frequent error messages include "machine_check exception", and "a clock interupt was not received on a secondary processor within the specified interval".

These BSOD crashes usually, but not always, happen when playing WoW.

This is very frustrating.  Any help would be appreciated.

You should probably contact Dell Tech Support (email and chat work best) for warranty service. Might be a motherboard or CPU problem.

They'll probably tell you to reinstall Windows, but since you upgraded to Win7, and the problem persists,  it doesn't sound like the OS is the problem.

You should probably contact Dell Tech Support (email and chat work best) for warranty service. Might be a motherboard or CPU problem.

They'll probably tell you to reinstall Windows, but since you upgraded to Win7, and the problem persists,  it doesn't sound like the OS is the problem.

Thanks Ron, but I was hoping for a more specific reply.  I am getting the impression from all my searching that this might be something which is rather difficult to diagnose.  I downloaded the window's debugging tool.  I am going to post my most recent crash dump below in hopes that someone will be able to give me more information.

An error from the Hal layer is definitely from the hardware.

First, do you have the latest version for all your drivers, especially the graphics card and chip set drivers?  Have you gone over your system and made sure that all 

plugs are securely plugged in?

Have you run the full hardware diagnostics suite that you get by booting into them (I think it's usually F12, but it's been a while).

I'd also suggest chatting with Dell support...

What's curious is that I have looked at many of these crash dumps, and they are for a wide variety of errors.  Several indicate hardware, but others are unknown. 

Unfortunately, I checked my date of purchase, and my memory of when I bought this was pretty far off.  It has been over a year, so Dell warranty service is no longer an option.

I have updated all the major drivers.  I have also tried re-installing Window's 7 (clean install), and WoW.  This did not help.

Tonight I downloaded CPUID Hardware Monitor to look at the temperatures.  It seems like it is running pretty hot.

The motherboard is running as hot as 73C, 163F. The cores are up to about 45C, 113F.  My video card (Radeon HD 4850) is a smoking 82C, 179F.

Check to make sure all the fans are working, including fans for CPU, power supply and video card (if any). And cllean out all the dust bunnies from fans, heatsink, motheboard, vents  with canned air.

Open Windows Event Viewer and click System. See if there are any "thermal event' errors (or others) around time a freeze.

Dell's Diagnostics have a fan test so run that too.

I checked all the fans, they are working.  There wasn't too much dust, but I blew it out with canned air anyway. 

Looked in Windows Event Viewer, no thermal events.

Ran the F12 diagnostics, all tests passed.

I did find that the ATI Radeon driver available from Dell's website is severely out of date, almost a year old and several versions behind.  I downloaded the newest version from ATI's website.  I'm hoping that might help.
