Dell Dimension 4550 Amber lights blinking

I am unable to start my pc and have noticed that both CD & DVD drives have blinking lights permanently.  On looking at the amber diagnosic lights on the back of the box  A is blinking green and amber and B is solid amber.  The others are all solid green.  I have tried switching on and off but to no avail.

Anyone out there able to tell me whats going on?

Thanks.

Are there any error messages, if so, please post the exact text of them?

What is the reading of the power button LED, solid green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber?

Bev.

 Bev,

The LED on the power button is solid green.  There are no error messages as I can't get th system to boot, therefore no live screen.

Dell Dimension 4550

Were there any software and/or hardware changes made to the system prior to this issue?

Try opening the case, removing and reseating the memory and cards.

Bev.

The only hardware change made was a couple of weeks ago when I hardwired my PC to a Broadband device in another part of the house.  Wireless would'nt work as we have metre thick stone walls.  Its worked perfectly since...  Anyway I'l try what you say which is where everyone else is pointing.

Thanks, much appreciated.  Will report back...

Have opened the case.  Reseated memory and video cards, but still no joy.

Can't think why both DVD and CD drive lights are continously blinking!!

There are no bleeps or lights from the keyboard when I switch on!
