Dell Inspiron 530 Power Supply.

Have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop which is few years old but has been a marvellous computer. I believe I need to replace the power supply because I have trouble starting it occasionally. How do I go about getting a replacement supply please?

Assuming that you have a Inspiron 530 Mini Tower and not the 530s slimline version.

A Dell OEM Inspiron 530 MT 350w power supply, can be purchased from Here:

Many thanks Bev I'll try and see if there is anything on the UK Amazon sites. Any further suggestions would also be helpful.

As you reside in the UK, and sometimes Amazon's S&H, when shipped from the US, can make the price too high, the following may help:

Most generic ATX power supply units can be installed, with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with or without the on/off switch.

You should be able to buy a compatible power supply from either a local or online computer store.

Note: You require a power supply with four SATA power connectors.

If you have any questions about any PSU that's selected, just post a link to it and I'll try to answer them.

I'm still using my Inspiron 530 MT, purchased in 2007 and you are right they really are a well built system.

Yes, The 450W Antec VP Series ATX PSU, should be fine. The 1 x 4+4pin CPU +12V connector splits into 2 4pin connectors, either of these can be use for the motherboard's P2 4pin connector.

Very many Thanks Bev. That's a kind gesture thank you. I'm still deciding whether to open the power supply up and replace the capacitors or renew the whole supply. I can't do anything just yet but when I can do it, maybe you would look at the spec of the one I consider to purchase. Thanks again.

John,

Once the PSU is having issues, in a system as old as the 530 series, it's best to replace the power supply.

Yes, would happy to check the power supply you select, please remember to post a link to it.

Bev, this is one I have found for your approval please? I've come to realise that the manufacturers photographs show the PSU upside down and that really threw me because I thought the top of my case would prevent the warm air escaping so was looking for one with a fan at the rear. It seems the important thing is the wattage, the correct no. of SATA connectors etc. and the ATX form factor. Many thanks for your help.

It depends on which of the Inspiron 530/531 series you are refering too.

The power supply shown in your post, is for the Inspiron 530s/531s Slimline version, the Inspiron 530/531 Mini Tower version, supports either a 300w, or a 350w PSU, as shown here:
