Dell Precision T3500
I just bought a Dell Precision T3500 desktop from the dell outlet.
These are the specs:
- Dual Core Intel Xeon W3503 2.40GHz, 4M L3, 4.8GT/s
- 2 GB DDR3 ECC SDRAM 1333MHz
- Integrated Intel chipset SATA 3.0Gb/s controller
I have had bad luck with dell outlet products but couldn't resist the low price to get in on the ground floor of the T3500 workstation. I use one at work and love it.
I was told that the motherboards for the T3500 are upgradeable and I am wanting to know given the processor I listed above, how far can I go as far as upgrades.
Thanks

Thats not a simple answer.
Dell does not ship systems with the same Heatsink, power supply, etc.
Faster and Dual Processors may require a VRM, Bigger 1KW power supply, Copper heatpipe Heatsink, extra cooling fans etc.
Update the Bios to the latest version for that system BEFORE trying any newer processors.
Newer Microcode and system firmware come with newer bios.
The XEON Processors are mostly used in servers and can cost $1000 or more each for the higher end versions.
If you are using a pair of them they MUST Be matched in "S" spec and stepping.
Dual Core W3505 2.53GHz/4MB cache seems to be max shipped.
up to 24 GB of DDR3 ECC with 64 bit cpu and OS.
Two PCIe x16 slots for its supported graphics cards.

There is only one board for that system, with 3 revision flavors, which is more an OEM thing and less about upgrade.
So the simple answer is you do not have a board to upgrade to. What you have is it.
CPU can be upgraded.
You can upgrade RAM although at 6GB and above it MUST all be dual rank
Controller can be upgraded to a SAS RAID card if you A) Need RAID and B) Want to cough up for the cost of SAS drives
There are a LOT of video card options for T3500's (16 possible card I think)
But, no upgrades to the system board. Sorry.
