Dell Precision T5500 CPU Upgrade
Have recently purchased a bare bones Dell Precision T5500.
The mobo is the OD883F version.
Is it possible to install the intel Xeon X5550 processors with this mobo.
Any help appreciated.

Sorry for the slow answer. This is the best answer I could get from our engineering department:
Precision T5500 Motherboard Part number CRH6C supports Westmere Intel E56XX | Intel X56XX
Precision T5500 Motherboard Part number WFFGC also supports Westmere Intel E56XX | Intel X56XX
Precision T5500 Motherboard Part number D883F supports Nehalem Intel E55XX | Intel X55XX
In theory (not tested): Westmere should work on the older motherboard as well (D883F) if you are running latest BIOS.

Many thanks for your reply.
Installed a pair of Intel Xeon x5550's which are running fine.
Also installed a HD 7870 / 2GB gpu.
This required a slight modification to case but was well worth it.

Hi,
I have tested the D883F with the latest BIOS and twin X5660's. It has all worked fine.
