Dell Precision T7400-Windows 7 and Overall Slow Performance

Hello,

I've installed Windows 7 Professional 64bit on a Dell Precision T7400.  The T7400 contains to Xeon processor and has 8mb RAM.  I've noticed considerable latency in both DVD ROM and Hard Drive performance (WD Green 500 GB SATA Hard Drive.

I look forward to and welcome feedback from the Dell Community.

Thank you.

8GB should be fine depending on what you are doing with the computer. What speed and configuration of FB DIMMS do you have installed?

The WD GREEN drives are pretty slow drives designed for lower power and quieter operation. They are probably not the best choice for a primary hard drive. I would suggest at least a BLUE (Desktop Mainstream) or BLACK (Desktop Performance) drive.

8GIG ram?   My systems haven't had 8mb of ram since DOS 5/ Windows 3.0.

Perhaps you have malware.

I also have never been satisfied with the performance of Windows 7 64 bit on my T7400.  I have 1 xeon quad core and 32GB ram.  Seems most of my issues come from poor disk data transfer rates.  I suffer from no response/system lock up sometimes just moving files from one drive to another.

Yeah, My brother-in-law will sometimes mention that he has 8 k or 8 megs in his system. That's what happens when you've been in the industry since dinosaurs roamed the earth!
