Dell Studio XPS 9100 : Rear power button
There is a small black momentary button at the rear, below the power light. Waht is the prupose of this button? I could not find it described in the documentation

That is the powersupply test button. Unless you think you have a powersupply issue you should leave it alone

Will do ( ie leave it alone).
How did you determine this was a powersupply test button? Could not find it in the documentation.

I know this post is extremely old... but is there a small rectabgular protective cover that goes over this button ?
I have such a cover that looks like it pushes into the back to cover something important on the back of the 9100.
It's black plastic about 1 1/2" x 2" and has a circle with a line thru it like a warning of some sort.
