Dell Update software (1.3.9)

I am not understanding the purpose of the Dell Update software.  If I go to Dell.com manually and look for drivers for my model PC, I see all sorts of updates available (based on the versions I show in "My Dell" utility on my computer). For example there is a new BIOS and new video card driver, compared to what My Dell shows me.

Dell Update never finds any updates.  I manually select "Check for Updates" and it still does nothing (SYSTRAY icon turns green for a few seconds, then nothing).  What is the purpose of this utility?
