Dell XPS 420 Windows 7 x64

I have been trying to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 and have had problems getting the install started.

After booting from CD and selecting my language it prompts me for CD drivers, it then accepts the RAID drivers and then the prompt changes to "Device Drivers" I have pointed the browse button to every folder on the XPS install disk to no avail. I have searched the dell support website for drivers but can only find windows installer versions.

Please can someone point me in the direction of the 64bit drivers needed for Windows to start installing. I would find them my self but I can not find a place that tells me the manafacturer details of the different devices, drivers and motherboard information to be able to do that.

Are you running a Raid setup? If not you need to set your SATA mode in the bios to ACHI

The two drives are not using RAID but I can not find the ACHI option in the BIOS

My miss that option is not incorporated in the 420, If you are loading Win 7 you should not need to load any drivers at the prompt it should just proceed with out them. SATA drivers are incorporated into win 7.

I have Windows 7 32bit installed and that didn't need any of the drivers but the 64bit version prompted these error messages: social.technet.microsoft.com/.../4d906f85-7650-4eff-8bd2-13ec2b0bd2ae

Try the link below.  It would be for XPS 430 using Vista Business 64bit but should also work with XPS 420 with Windows 7 64bit:
