Dell XPS 420 - new graphics card and PSU needed.

Hi there,

recently my PC has pretty much decided to pack up and go off on one.  After a recent blue screen and reboot red blocks appeared all over my screen (which can be described as tetris).  After coming to the conclusion that it's simply a problem with my graphics card I decided to do some pretty ellaborate research into various graphics cards that will be supported by my XPS's 420 with a 375W PSU and I seem to find nothing but conflicting information.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could offer any advice on whether a 9800GT for example will be supported by my 375W PSU or whether a new PSU may be needed, if so, any recommended PSU's that will actually fit into a Dell due to the odd dimensions.

Thank you for any help you can offer :)

I've been running a 9800GT on my XPS 420 with a 375W PSU for over a year without a problem. It even runs Crysis with a playable framerate.

Any problems with overheating or anything as such?

Have you tried Modern Warfare 2?

No problems overheating. I have played Crysis, TF2, and Bioshock on this system.

I don't know about the 9800GT but the Nvidia GTS450 and the ATI HD 5770 should both be fine with the 375W PSU. From what i can gather despite their low Wattage rating the DELL PSUs are ok.
