Dell XPS 730x Issue.
Hello all,
I just installed a new sound card in my XPS 730x. I must of loosened something because it will only boot while holding down the PS reset button. While booting up I get " Alert! M/B I/O plug not connected. Could some on point me in the right direction on which plug this is before I start opening things up again. Thanks all. Josh

Have you checked the cable connection between the front panel and motherboard inside the case?

Thanks for the response. Not sure where the connection between the the MB and front panel would be but I'll have a look.

Check these, for starters:
#11 on motherboard, in manual, page 3.
#13 on master control board, page 5.

Not yet. Pointed me to what I was looking for in the manual. I have a 730x not a 730 though. #11 in the 730x diagram is the internal USB header 3 (USB). Is that what you meant? I'm trying to clear a way to see the MC board atm. Lots of stuff in he way. Thans all for the continued help.

Sorry...my bad... I looked at the 730 motherboard diagram and not the 730x diagram. :emotion-10:
But if you look at the 730x diagram, there's an unnumbered header in approximately the same place as #11, "font panel connector" (DUH - nobody proofread the diagram :emotion-40: ) in the 730 diagram.
I assume that's the "font" panel connector for the 730x, because it's not marked elsewhere on that motherboard. :emotion-5:
I have no idea what the other unnumbered connectors are in that same area on the 730x board.

Did you check the connectors on the motherboard too? And there has to be a cable to the front panel, so did you check the connector on the front panel end of that cable?
You can also try clearing BIOS:
Dell cases use a custom connector to the front panel, so you will have problems installing a new motherboard in this case. And you're going to have to buy a new license for Windows, because the version installed on the hard drive is tied to the Dell motherboard.
Maybe you should take it to a reliable PC shop and let them troubleshoot for you.

I checked all the MB MCB connections and reset all ram and other components and still the same issue. I guess I'll end up gutting this 730x and use the 1000w PSU/ chassis to build or have built another PC. Thanks all for the help.

I checked every connection I could find. I'll go through it again another day. I have an Alienware R5 Aurora on the way now.
