Dell XPS 8900 Graphics Card Replacement.
I have an XPS8900 with a Dell supplied 750 TI card fitted. I would like to replace this with an Asus Strix 960 GTX board. It is longer than existing board and I am not sure if it will fit due to ram slots and some power plugs for HD etc.
Has anyone fitted the type of card to an 8900 and does it physically fit on mboard.

Yes it will fit.
Yes the stock PSU will work. Dig around for the 6 pin PCI connector. I don't believe the 750ti uses an extra power cable.
here is a link to a thread, with a link to a thread to xps 8700 upgrades. The cases are the same for an 8700 and an 8900 and the PSUs are also the same from what I have been told.

You could also look at the recently released GTX 1060 which is even better, and uses less power, but it is a little more money than the 960

Hello
I have an XPS8900 with a GTX 960. I would like to install the GTX 1060 instead. Does the PSU supports this card?
Anything else you could recommend before buying and trying to install the card?

The GTX 960 (FTW version is just a little longer than the reference type GTX 960 cards. However, there's a smaller GTX 960 for smaller computers, if there's no space.
From what I recall, I installed the GTX 960 & there was room to spare, just make sure that your SATA cables are out of the way. The GTX 1060 FTW + ACX 3.0 is only an inch or so longer & a fantastic card for the money, though has jumped in price by $20 since I recently purchased it. At $319, some may wish to consider a budget 1070, the GTX 10 series GPU's uses less power than the 900 series versions.
Only thing is that an 8 pin power connector will be needed for the EVGA FTW + ACX 3.0 6GB GPU, there's an included adapter in the package. to convert two 6 pin GPU power connectors into a single 8 pin one.
May want to check out some YouTube videos out on this, I've personally learned a lot viewing these.

As long as the card physically fits, the GTX 1060 will work without issues.
Some cards have a single 8 pin PCIe power connecton and for that to work you will need to buy a reverse Y connector that takes two six pin and adapts to a single 8 pin.
These can be found on eBay for about $5 to $10 USD shipped. I can't recall if I could find them on amazon or new egg..
My personal brand/card preference has been the MSI Gaming series. in my family/extended family we have several of these running including GTX 760/770/970 and 1070s.
All of the above fit in XPS 8700 cases which is nearly identical to the 8900.

In my 8900 my 970 was plugged into a 4 pin connector only on the motherboard. Am I missing something?

can you post a picture of the connector and where on the motherboard it is connected?
