Dell vostro 230ST with D1901N LCD monitor on GeForce 310 issue

Hello there,

I just bought a dell vostro 230 slim tower (see specifications in the end of this post).it's supposed to have a 19 inch widescreen LCD monitor, since in the document that came from ARB sales it said so, plus i had the effort to physically measure it by myself, and it trully is a 19 inch monitor.

Though the native resolution for a 19 inch widescreen LCD monitor is 1440x900 pixels, the sales sites and other sites over the web tells the monitor is a 18.5 inch LCD monitor, and this max resolution is 1366X768 pixels, as you can see here <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>.

THIS is a google-translated version.

(i'm sorry it's written in portuguese, but i couldn't find any english site with the same information.)

As we can see, it seems the monitor actually should have a resolution of 1366x768, but actually it's a 1440x900 resolution monitor.

I tried all sorts of drivers and methods, such as using a driver of another 19" monitor, or setting all the drivers from drivers and downloads (chipset, video card, monitor itself), rolling back the monitor driver or the video card driver, and so on. tried also changing the resolution in many ways, like creating a custom resolution at the Nvidia screen panel. When i do so it (the monitor itself) says it is not supported resolution.

i installed the following drivers:
R246906 -> chipset
R246682 -> NVidia GeForce 310 video card
R233540 -> DELL D1901N Monitor
R222251 -> Dell E1909WB 19" monitor :emotion-1:

Nothing worked. The thing is that the 19" monitor thinks it's a 18.5 monitor, and every font on the web think so. It would be ok, if the things on screen looked ok, or if i had vision problems, but for me, everything look way too big on the screen.
So i don't know what to do. I want the monitor to have a resolution that it was made for, and it seems it doesn't have support for.

it's kinda paradoxical, i know, but i wonder if somebody could help me in finding if there's a way to solve this riddle.

ED_BB,

It appears to me that your D1901N is exactly what its specification state: native resolution of 1366x768. There is nothing that you can do to change this fact.

Video driver, monitor driver etc... have no influence whatsoever. The resolution is inherent to the hardware and is reported to the operating system via DDC (look in you manual under Plug & Play).

I think you need to purchase a higher resolution monitor.
