Dell xps 8700 1703 wireless driver for 2.4 & --> [5ghz] ??
We now have 1 gig fiber speed in our city and I am unable to use the 5ghz option with latest driver.
I downloaded this driver
Dell Wireless 1703 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth4.0 Driver

But still unable to take advantage of the higher wireless speeds without a 5 ghz driver, am I stuck with this? Or do I need a new wireless card that can be inserted to enable the higher speed
Any help or options would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi Dudleytm,
Unfortunately, Dell Wireless 1703 doesn't support 5 Ghz operating frequency. You might have to look into upgrading the wireless card to Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235 Wireless/Bluetooth Half Mini-Card, as this card is compatible with 5Ghz operating frequency.

I have a 8700 just got the card. Call Dell...I know. You want the AC 7260/ 7260 HMW part # 8TF1D.
I believe it was about $25.00. So take out the 1700 2.4 Ghz now you will have 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz w/BT 4.0.

Keep in mind that you're going to need an "ac" (5 GHz) router, or a dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) router to connect at 5 GHz with any new "ac" WiFi card.
And 5 GHz works over shorter distances than 2.4 GHz, so signal strength may be lower on 5 GHz compared to 2.4 GHz.
