Desktop wont restore [PLEASE HELP]
Hello everyone,
The other day I tried to use the internet on my Dell Dimension 310. It said that I was connected to the internet my browser (google chrome) didnt connect. I attempted to reboot the modem and the router. After I did that its said a network cable has been unplugged. I restarted my computer and same thing again. Still nothing. After calling Dell tech support and a couple local tech support I decided I wanted to reboot my computer cause it was getting slow anyway. I have done this about 4 times already so im very familiar. The only problem was I lost the disk to do it so I asked my friend about it and he said he could give me his windows xp pro sp3 disk cause he has and extra code for the OS. So i attempted to do it but when I pressed enter on boot from Onbord or CD-ROM or flash it said "Selected boot device not available". Next thing I did was run a diagnoses and I got the following error code: 0F00:136C. It also said something about booting and CD so it seems like this is the right error code.
If you guys can provide any help that would be awesome!
Also if you need any more info on my system or anything just comment below.
Cheers

Hi Aleda542,
I will recommend you to run the diagnostics again:
To run the ‘Dell Diagnostics’
If the above steps do not work, then check in safe mode:
Please reply with the findings.

So I ran the diagnoses again and got the same code. I started the computer in safe mode and the "blue screen of death" popped up.

Hi Aleda,
Thank you for your reply.
I am answering on behalf of Dell_Appu_S. This seems to be an error with the hard drive.
Please follow the steps below to run the custom test on the hard drive.

Hi Aleda,
Just wanted to check if you could run the diagnostics successfully. If you are getting any error code please let me know. As I informed you previously, it seems to be a hard drive and most probably it would need a replacement.
Please reply for any further questions.

So I ran the custom hard drive test and got the following errors codes:
0F00: 0244
0F00: 0244
0F00: 0244
0F00: 1A44
0F00: 1A44
I went to school while the diagnoses was running. I came back and it seems that my brother touched the computer and stopped it. When I left for school it was at 85%. I can redo the test if needed.
Thanks

Error code 0F0:0244 indicates, that the Dimension e310 has a failing hard drive and you need to replace it ASAP.
The e310 supports an internal, 3.5", 7200rpm, SATA hard drive, this can be purchased from most local and online computer stores.
Bev.
Ps. Error code: 0F00:136C, indicates no data disc was present in the optical drive, when the diagnostics were run.

Do you know where this hard drive would be cheapest? Link would be nice.
Thanks!

Well thanks for the info but its a pretty old computer so its not worth investing in a new hard drive.
Thanks anyway!

You can buy a new hard drive for $50, and if you switch computers, you can move it over.
