Dimension 3000 error message:failed at checkpoint [dskt] how do I fix???

I have a Dimension 3000 that gives me the error message; failed at checkpoint [dskt], when it will stay on long enough to dispaly the message on the screen. Most of the time it just comes on for about 1-4 seconds before turning itself off. I am unable to even get to the setup menu in the bios. I have tried reseting the bios by taking the battery out and pressing the power button. I have even gone as far as unplugging the IDE cables inside before trying to boot. IF anyone has ever had this problem and can help me I would appreciate it.
