Dimension 4700c Power Supply Question

Okay this is probably a no brainer but I am going to ask it anyway. As we know the 4700c is a SFF case and uses the 160watt SFF power supply. There is nothing wrong with the power supply in this box. However I would like to install a Geforce GT 630 SFF video card which will fit without issue. The problem is the card recommends a minimum power supply of 300w. But I looked up the video card specs and it is listed at a maximum graphics card power of 49 W.

Other than the P4 3.0Ghz Processor and the normal standard fair that came with the PC, HDD, Slim DVD drive, Multi card reader, there isn't really anything drawing a load. So can I in theory run this card in the box without issue, or does dell make a SFF PSU of 300W or greater that will fit in the case. Or will I have to engineer something like a Mini-ITX psu that will fit internally, or just buy a standard ATX psu and have it sit outside the box?

Yes, 270w should be fine.

That was a excellent find, would you mind posting the price?

I would say the 160w PSU is too small, for the Geforce GT 630, Dell does list a 270w [page 28] in the Dimension 4700C specifications, but where you would locate this unit, I have no idea.

Also, a power supply with a P1 20-pin power connector is required for the motherboard.

Thank you I believe I have found the 270W PSU :)

http://stuartconnections.com/products/Computers/Components/PowerSupplies/Dim_Opti_270W_F6442/description.htm

This website says this 270W Power Supply is compatible, (but not limited to), the following Dell SFF systems: Dimension 4700c, Optiplex GX280

Would the 270W power supply be sufficient? I think it might but I would like to be sure before I purchase it.

Happy to have helped and I appreciate the info,.  :emotion-21:

Ps, I noticed the PSU on eBay seems to be a 160w unit, not a 270w.
