Dimension 5100 will not power up
Hi,
Dimension 5100 no longer powers up and is totally dead. Thinking it was the power supply unit (PSU), I bought a new one and changed it; still the same problem. The motherboard light comes on but nothing else happens.
Any ideas? Could it be the switch? If so, how can I test it, change it?
Thanks for your help

Did you check the diagnostic lights? Here's your Manual

that will tell you what they mean.

Thanks for the info.
The system won't start at all, thus I don't even get the lights. The green light on the motherboard comes on, nothing else happens. Is there a way to check the Power on switch.

I have the same issue, I replaced the power supply and still does nothing. I have the green light on the MB on but nothing else.
I am wondering if i need to replace the MB

Hi James,
I spoke with someone at DELL and did some tests, they claim it could be the MB or the On\Off swich. The on\off switch can't be tested since there's no way to bypass this. If you find a cheapish place for the MB replacement or switch could you post the link here
Thanks

the on/off switch can be tested by shorting across it, surely ? Even if this means figuring out which pin on a multiway plug is connected to it.

One would assume so. I will give it try.
Thanks

Hi,
The problem was with the PSU, basically it had to be replaceed. This fixed the issue.
Cheers
