Display goes blank randomly

My display randomly goes blank for a second (as if it were changing resolution), this can happen at any time, during normal desktop operation, games, fullscreen video etc.

I am running an Alienware X51 with Intel HD video onboard and Geforce GTX660 set as the default card, connected via HDMI to a Dell S2440L monitor. Applications have a right click option to "Run with graphics processor.. xxx" so I assume both video chipsets are enabled and capable of running in an onboard SLI type setup thru the same monitor port, prehaps this is the issue?

Has anyone else had this problem or can offer ideas to a solution? It is rather annoying when trying to watch a movie or play a game

Thanks,

Clive

I have a similar problem. My S2440 monitor is connected to my desktop with the standard VGA cable. I have a HDMI cable attached to the monitor so I can connect my laptop at times. With the monitor set for either auto detect or HDMI only, the monitor goes blank for a few seconds randomly. Can’t figure out why.
