EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti on XPS9000?

Thinking of upgrading the graphics card on my XPS9000, EVGA says that its GTX550 requires power supply of at least 400W, and in various treads I see power supply for XPS9000 listed as 400, 430 or 475W, don't know which is right.  How can I check my PSU Wattage, didn't see any numbers on the unit itself?  Anybody had any good/bad experience with GTX550 with XPS9000?

You can try downloading a program called PC Wizard from the websitewww.cpuid.com/.../pc-wizard.html and when it does its diagnostics, there is going to be an icon of a power supply on the left hand side. You should look at the gallery of pictures on there to see what I mean. That should be able to at least determine the wattage of your power supply.

Another alternative would be to get your service tag and input that in Dell's Support section of the website, that will tell you YOUR computer's specifications. The more common XPS9000 though was sent with a 475w power supply, which is not bad and will actually be able to run the GTX550. Video cards specify high wattage supplies because they assume the inclusion of a motherboard, cpu, ram and hard disk drive. You'll be fine with the 475w but if you are able to upgrade, I would do so to a 550-650 just to be on the safe side.

The Studio XPS 435T/9000 only shipped with a 475w power supply. You might consider upgrading that power supply.

Thanks Chris.  So if it is only 475W version, guess I should be OK with present PSU. EVGA says that 400W is needed?  Since originally shipped I added one SSD drive and one HD, these can't drain much.

Thanks. Could not find any PSU W numbers on Dell support listing  of my system configuration (but I found a lots of specs for various screws :-)   But I did a check it and it is 475W indeed. I think I will go on with the graphics upgrade and close the tread.  Will reopen in I run into trouble. with PSU or otherwise.
