GTX970 in Precision T5500

Hi, I am totally new to this. My son has a Dell Precision T5500 (with 2 XEON-CPUs, 24GB ram, 100GB SSD, 1TB HDD) and just got a GTX970 to replace a stoneage graphiccard (ATI-FireGL, this is what the sticker says) coz he started to play more advanced games, such as War Thunder.

The challenge I have now - The GTX970 fits into the case, but I cannot figure out how to connect to the powersupply.

PLEASE URGENT HELP NEEDED.

thanks, Robert

You cannot add that card without replacing the power supply with a 500w (or better) psu with extra connectors. The Precision T5500 is more suited for business use, not gaming.

Hi Mary, thanks for your prompt answer. What I figured out is that our T5500 has a 850W PSU and I found two idle power connectors (P5 and P6) which I connected to the card. --- and everything worked fine!

this thread helped me to find out - its on tomshardware.

and since the 970 only needs 150W it should be fine, or?

thanks, Robert
