GX 280 Memory

I am installing Win XP Pro X64 (SP2) on a client's Optiplex GX280s. They originally had XP Pro X86 installed with 4 GB RAM. The BIOS shows 4 GB and the XP X86 machines it shows 4GB in the General tab of system properties. HOWEVER, on the machines I have installed the X64 version of XP Pro on it only shows 3GB or RAM on the system properties. Is this normal or is there something I need to do for the total amount of ram to be recognized?

Thanks,

Larry

Does the chipset support 4gb or more?...Does the system support memory Re-Mapping?...

Intel 915G supports up to 4 GB in 32 bit mode (according to what I can find on the Intel site). Doesn't say anything about 64 bit mode operation other than its EMT-64 capable. Don't know if the Optiplex GX280 does hardware remap or not. Funny though tht the 32-bit XP shows the full 4 GB when even Microsoft says that it should only show 3.5 GB on a 4 GB system and the 64 bit XP only shows 3 GB. I think the display adapter is grabbing some of th system ram though. THey are using the NVidia GForce 8400GS PCIe cards with 256 meg RAM, BUT the system is showing the card with 768 Meg RAM. Figure that one out...

If it is EMT-64 then it does support Memory Re-Mapping,and will address 4gb and above.O.k.,the cards are using 512mb of memory, but with vista,it usually uses up to 1768mb of system ram for video so there is a problem some where?...Just don't know where.
