Graphics card for E520

hi, im thinking of upgrading my graphics card but not sure if it will work with my system.

currently i have Radeon X1300. im looking for a graphics card that will work with my current system, preferably without me having to upgrading the psu. if i do need to upgrade my psu could you recommend which one.

my system specs are:

3gb ram (512  x2 + 1gb x2)
Intel core 2 6300 @ 1.86 GHz
standard psu which is 305w
and running vista premium
---

i dunno if this is related but im getting a sort of shadow effect on my display. it looks like faint grayish lines, that appear after text and icons.
is there a way i can fix this?, i have the latest drivers for my graphics card.

thanks in advance

i would suggest an ATI 4650 card ... they are a good cheap middle of the road card that wouldn't  require a new power supply.  If you are a hard core gamer then maybe a nvidia 9800 with a new powersupply thats at least 550w

Hi d1ps, There are 2 cards that come to mind, one being the 9500GT HERE, others HERE and the other being the 4650 HERE, others HERE.

I would go with the HD 4650 or HD 4670.  HERE is a list of cards from the best to the worst.  As you can see the HD 4670 comes in at number 28 which is pretty good.  Your X1300 comes in at number 108.  The 9500GT is at 48 and the 8400GS at 96.  If the HD 4650 were on the list, it would be equal to the 33, 34 and 35 cards.  Since you have the Core 2 Duo CPU, I would go with either the HD 4650 or HD 4670.

Do you have any dust on your card or in your system that needs cleaning out?  If so, get a can of compressed air as dust will cause heat build up.

Hi JMICHAEL,

Would the 1GB version of the 4670 be OK for the stock E520?

Equally, would this 1GB 9500GT be OK for me?

Just to throw my 2 cents in. I have the same PC (except for minor differences [4gb RAM, Windows 7]), and I'm looking to upgrade the video card as well.

I purchased this card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161287

I found that the card was "too tall" to fit into the case. The fan wouldn't fit due to the plastic CPU-holder. And, the card required two slots, which also wouldn't work, due to the PCIe slot being the top-most slot. So, my mistake. Just thought I'd pass this along so no one else had the same problem. :)

Also, I think I've found a good replacement to use instead of the previously linked card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150449

My only concern is the power supply.

Does anyone have any recommendations for upgrading the 305 power supply? If I need to? The card recommends a 400w power supply, so, I'm thinking I should replace it...

I too would like any available help. :)
