Hauppauge(R) WinTV-HVR-1200 Hybrid Analog/Digital TV Tuner

Just ordered an XPS 8300 with above TV card. Seems this tuner dates back to 2007 and is not even on maufatcturers web site.

I find this a bit bewildering and am left wondering what other components of this build are obsolete.

The 1200 is an external usb plugin model. The 1250 is the internal pci model. See this-- www.tigerdirect.com/.../item-details.asp

I checked the listing for the xps 8300 and only the 1250 is listed for the tuner.

I can't find the 1200 listed on Dell's XPS 8300 sales page, just the "Hauppauge HVR1250 hybrid TV Tuner with Remote Control." Are you certain you have a 1200 and not a 1250?

It may be that Hauppauge dropped the retail versions of the card due to the end of analog broadcasting. They have a 1250 version listed.

Provided that proper drivers are available, it shouldn't be an issue. In my experience, it's software and not hardware that's the main problem with obsolescence. If the drivers are functioning properly, Windows 7 Media Center will integrate the device seamlessly.

Thanks for your responses people. If I could post a copy of my order I would but this is copied and pasted from it:

Hauppauge(R) WinTV-HVR-1200 Hybrid Analog/Digital TV Tuner

That's what's on the order. Dell has the manual on it's website but nothing on Hauppauge web site as previously mentioned.

When I ordered the XPS it was the only option for a TV tuner.

Cheers

Ahh, you're from Australia.

That model must be specialized for your broadcasting system, which I believe uses PAL and not NTSC.

hi i ordered xps8300 in september and also chose the tv tuner option its a happague  my invoice just says "hybrid pcxex1 tv tunercard" in uk Were use pal standard also so i guess mines the same model there was only 1 to choose from .mine must have been in a box sat somewhere for a while as the remote control "elcheapo batteries" had leaked some there contents ! luckily they  were inside a sealed package of there own so caused no harm..the tuner card i have works great in my system win7hp 64  so old or new i dont mind

Thanks again guys. :) Yep I am in Australia and use PAL.

Even if you change regions on the Hauppauge web site still cant find a 1200 anywhere. I did the on line chat thing and they told me to call tech support.....on Tuesday.
