How to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista after formatting

Hi,

i recently had to format my Dell Studio One 1909, which when I bought it had windows vista, however I also had a free upgrade to windows 7 which I did. Obviously now the link expired so I'm curious is there anyway for me to do the upgrade or where I can get a free version as id rather not pay for it as it's not the main computer anymore.

Any help would be much appreciated!

If it has expired, you have to buy an upgrade disk. You still must reinstall vista first to upgrade to win 7. Just reinstall vista to use as a backup computer and save the cost of the upgrade.

Thanks Mary :)

I have formated it and it is running Vista again, but as there was no CD for the free upgrade I am not sure how to upgrade it as the link I used at the time has expired (as it was 2009 that it was done and offered).

You should have got media with a product key, likely these were shipped. Without the product key you cannot activate Windows 7.

However since this system was within the 6 month period and eligible for the Windows 7 Upgrade. You should be correctly licensed and the System Locked Preinstallation mechanism of the Dell Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD will work with the latest BIOS revision A10:

To download Windows 7 Home Premium follow the instructions here:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/windows-7-sp1-iso-download/

Install without a product key and use the ABR program to activate:

This should get you back to an activated Dell OEM Windows 7. For more details see A Clean Install of Windows:
