I can not boot up my Optiplex 755

I get the following msg:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup
using the oricial Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to srat repair.

I tried this methods and other methods but all failed.

How can I solve this problem? Please help.
Thank you,
Carlos

I had the same problem with my computer running XP Pro.  I ran the diagnostic disk which told me that there were disk errors.  Since I couldn't restore or fix the file I assume the disk errors were where the corrupt file is.  Run your diagnostic on the hard drive.  If there are disk errors you may have to replace the hard drive.  Your data would still be good so you would need to get a SATA to USB enclosure or adapter kit to run it as an external drive or you could possibly use it as an extra internal SATA drive.

I encountered a problem when I replaced my hard drive:  My computer wouldn't recognize any internal ide DVD drives so I had to get a conversion kit to make my DVD drive an external USB drive (alternative would be to buy an external DVD drive).  I hope someone has a better solution because replacing the hard drive and re-installing all the drivers, software, and copying the old data back on took a lot of time.  If you find no disk errors then your problem lies elsewhere.

Good Luck,
