Inspiron 3250 - Room for an SSD?

This looks like a good machine for my wife, but I want to use an SSD for C: and use the supplied hard drive for backups.

The specs say it takes one 3.5" drive or two 2.5", but they supply it with a 3.5" so no expansion room. :(

Is there room to stick an SSD somewhere in there with double sided tape?

Below is a picture of the Inspiron 3250 small desktop with the side cover removed. I do not see any place where you could "stick an SSD". I would go with the larger Inspiron 3650. Second picture.

And looking at the photo, although the spec says "Two 2.5‑inch drive or one 3.5‑inch drive," the photo shows both a 3.5" drive (1) and a 2.5" drive (2).  So maybe I can put the double sided tape back on the shelf.

Thanks, Chris.  That looks like a much better idea. The 3650 has more SATA ports and PCIe slots than the 3250.

Unfortunately it has the same hard drive specification - one 3.5" or two 2.5" drives.  But from this picture in the service manual, there should be plenty of room to squirrel a small SSD in there somewhere.

I understand double sided tape is not a preferred engineering solution. :)  But since SSDs have plastic cases, no vibration, and relatively low heat generation, it would probably work.  Or I could try to find a place to drill holes for a real mount.

There are some bare bones 3650 models around that should work fine for this application.  Staples has one with a Pentium chip on sale for $300.

The 3.5 inch drive can be replaced with R494D and 2 X  SSD Drives Added Although I don't know about the power connections without Y cables.

The official way to do it in most dells is to get the 2.5 to 3.5 blue plastic stacked 2.5 inch drive adapter R494D that snaps into the 3.5 inch drive holder. You can also use the Silverstone adapter has all the mount points of a standard 3.5" hard drive, and it's $12. It holds two 2.5" devices stacked just like the R494D does. Power and Sata port will have to be stolen from the optical drive or Y splitter used for power.  The R494D snaps into the 3.5 inch caddy like a matruska doll.

Got the 3650 and it's working fine with the SSD and hard drive.

But it didn't come with rails for the 2.5" SSD.  So that one's mounted between the two drive cages with - yes - double sided tape.
