Inspiron 530 - upgrade to Intel Core 2 Quad
Hi, I want to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 530 from "Intel Core 2 Duo" to "Intel Core 2 Quad". I read that I need to change the power supply from 300 watts to another with more than 350 watts.
I have two questions:
1.- I want to know if the products that I found to buy are correct:
Power Supply: http://affordablesurplus.com/dell-inspiron-530-531-power-supply.asp
2.- Do I need something else? Another recomendation?

There are two versions of the 530, one version has a 300w power supply and a FoxConn G33m02 motherboard, this version does not support Core 2 Quad processors, only Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual-Core and Celeron processors.
The second version has 350w power supply and a FoxConn G33m03 motherboard, this supports both, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processors, etc.
The Inspiron 530 specifications are HERE <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Thank you. My computer has a 300w power supply with a FoxConn G33m02 motherboard. If I change the power supply with another with 400w, can I install the Core 2 Quad processor?

No, while both motherboards have a Socket LGA775, you need the FoxConn G33m03 motherboard, the G33m02 [Dell P/N 0RY007] and G33m03 [Dell P/N 0FM586] are essentially identical, except for the power regulators on the motherboard.
The G33m02 is a cheaper version of the board that has only has 6 voltage regulator IC's and there are 11 voltage regulators on the G33m03.
