Inspiron 530 won't boot.

I shut down my Desktop (Inspiron 530) before leaving on a business trip.  Upon my return the unit will not power up.  The LED in the power switch on the front does not light up.  There is a green LED on the back of the power supply that is lit.  There is no led activity at the network cable.  There is single orange LED on the motherboard near the power supply connection lit up.

Motherboard or power supply?

Hi jwager,

The issue can be with either the power supply or the motherboard. Please follow the following steps to isolate the root cause of the issue:

  1. Releasing residual power:

    1. Power off the system.
    2. Disconnect the the power cable.
    3. Press and hold the power button on the tower for 20 to 30 seconds to release the residual charge on the system.
    4. Connect the power supply back and check if the system powers on.

  2. Try connecting the system to different power socket and check.

  3. Please try using the monitor power supply cable for powering on the desktop, if they are identical and the monitor is working using that cable.

  4. Try using an alternate good known power supply, if available to check if the system powers on.

Performing the aforementioned steps will let you isolate the root cause of issue.

Please share the findings.
