Inspiron 580 PSU and Graphics Upgrade
I decided recently to upgrade my graphics card on my Inspiron 580 to this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826&Tpk=EVGA%2002G-P4-2662-KR but I also need to upgrade my power supply unit to use this one.
The power supply unit I was looking at was this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153166&nm_mc=EMC-EXPRESS120112&cm_mmc=EMC-EXPRESS120112-_-EMC-120112-Index-_-PowerSupplies-_-17153166-L01B
I would like to know if they would function on my current motherboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi BVoss,
The GTX 660 definitely requires a PSU upgrade. I can't endorse that particular PSU but you can use most generic standard ATX power supply units, with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with or without the on/off switch, with at least four SATA power connectors.
Note that you could have gotten similar performance from an AMD card without the PSU upgrade.

Well i haven't bought the card yet but it has been recommended yo me. I think my motherboard only has four SATA connectors, is that a problem? I don't really understand how SATA ports work.
