Inspiron 620 how to connect to 5.1 surround ?

Hi,

i have a new Inspiron 620, how can i connect it to my surround receiver with having 5.1 sound ?

The system has only one connector for L/R output.

Hi Thorsten,

It appears the integrated sound on that system only supports stereo, not surround. You would need to add a sound card with optical or digital out in order to send a surround signal to your receiver. What you need depends on the capability of your receiver.

Where did you see "5.1 HD sound"?   I looked at the Dell sales site and several other sites with a google search and none say anything about surround or 5.1 sound.

I have what appears to be the same problem. Mine was advertised as having 5.1 surround HD, even called them to ask where the sockets were as in the photo they are not there. Was told all 3 audio sockets on the back would give 5.1, For Mic, you could use the one on the front. But now that my PC has arrived, it does not seem to want to work in 5.1???

I'm going to ask around. That does not seem right to me.
