Installing a slave hard drive
I'd like to know how to install a slave hard drive on my DIMENSION 4600, running XP.
I'm trying to recover data from the slave. The Pandora utility I'm using recommends the HD with the data to be recovered be installed as a slave to avoid over writing any of the data I'm trying to recover.
So I'd like to know how to do that.
Thanks.

Assuming that the hard drive being installed is IDE.
How to install a second IDE hard drive:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-4600_service%20manual_en-us.pdf
Set the hard drives jumpers to "Cable Select".
After the physical installation of the hard drive, check in the setup, that the hard drive is set to auto [on].
Note: You may need to buy an 18" IDE, 80 wire, three 40-pin connector data cable, similar to this:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Ultra-Ribbon-Inches-Connectors/dp/B00004Z5PZ
There should be a spare 4-pin Molex power connector available inside the case.

Thank you.
When you say "...check in the setup, that the hard drive is set to auto (on)."
Where is "the setup"? Is that the setup I access when the machine boots up?

Yes, that is what it means, by 'check in the setup'.
System Setup, aka BIOS, is opened by pushing the F2 key on startup.
For more information, see page 34 of the owners manual in the link I posted.
