Intallling memory
I am replacing curreent memory with 2GB into my 530s. Is there a protocol or order (1st closest to..) as to which mem set I have in there to be removed first.
As things stand now:
Slot Size Speed Type
Slot 1 1024 Mb 667 Mhz undefined
Slot 2 1024 Mb 667 Mhz undefined
Slot 3 1024 Mb 667 Mhz undefined
Slot 4 1024 Mb 667 Mhz undefined
Thank you.

The instructions are in the reference manual, which if you lostr the original is available on-line. You do realize that you will need a 64 bit operating system if you exceed 4 GBytes of memory

Moved to Desktop General Hardware Forum for more expert advice.
The information you need to install the memory may be found in the manual here. Memory may be purchased direct from Dell here or from Crucial.
There appears to be a discrepancy in the maximum Memory depending on the model, on the Service Manual it says:
Just check that the 8 GB is supported, I would personally upgrade all 4 at the same time if possible, then it doesn't matter what module is where as they are all the same. You may run the Crucial scan and it will tell you compatible parts.
You will need the 64 bit version of Vista installed. If you currently have the 32 bit, you will need to perform a manual installation of the 64 bit Vista OS. This should be rather straightforward if you follow my wiki (link in my signature below) A Clean Install of Windows. However if you are going through this hassle I would recommend buying an upgrade copy of Windows 7 64 bit and install that instead, I have install instructions for both OS.

I altered from Vista to "7" about a year ago. Will check on whether 32 or 64.
Again thanks,
Dave

The manual doesn't indicate which slot shoul be first to replace. So tomorrow, I'll just coffee-up and go at it. In amonth or so I'll top off with the remaining 2GB. Per budget, I can't say how I'd be able to do a 32 to 64. Just amere reallty.
But, my scan shows:

My set-up is for 32bit and I moved from Vista to 7 last year. Beyond 4GB won't fly, so I've ordered another 2GB, which when I have it will give me the 4GB limit under 32bit.
Getting into a re-do to 64 is a bit daunting for me. Now, when the mem arrives, I'll just have to determine which slots are the right ones.
I appreciate your courtesy, Thank you.
