Making my Inspiron 580 wireless
I want to make my Inspiron 580 wireless using a PCI adapter - is this possible and if so is it easy to do as I am not familiar with the innards of a pc?

Hi Starspirit,
If you can clean the crumbs out of your toaster, you are qualified to install a PCI card. Here's you service manual section
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
on how to do this.
As far as which wireless card, that depends on which wireless router you have.

Thanks Osprey 4 - I can probably manage that.
I have a TalkTalk ADSL+2 router. It has on the label "HUAWEI EchoLife HG521" - does that give you any clues as to which wireless card I would need?

Ok, this router has built-in wireless N. So any wireless N PCI card should work.

Hi Lisa, if you are using any of the BT Home hubs, then this USB Dongle HERE will work for you. I still use the 1055, but you can't buy that now.

I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router, what wireless card would I need? Also, would a wireless USB work?

Hi rjmpotter,
Although USB might work, a wireless-G PCI card will generally provide better performance than a USB dongle. Since you have a Linksys router, I'd recommend a Linksys wireless card.

Hi Osprey,
I have an Actiontec 802.11g wireless DSL modem router model PK5000. Will you please help me find a compatible PCI wireless network card? Thank you!

Get a $10 802.11n USB wifi adapter. Much easier to install.
