I would like to know what voltage of RAM I can use in my 420. I assume my MOBO is designed for 1.8V, but the RAM I would like to purchase is 2.0V. Is this an issue with the X38 MOBO.
if you are going to populate all four slots then you should try and keep the voltage to no more than 2.0 volts on this system. So you should be ok. IF any thing the ram would throttle down to 1.8v and perhaps a bit looser specs.
I was thinking of using 2 x 2gb sticks of 800 Mhz OCZ Reaper from Newegg...the voltage is 2.1 on them. Any recommendations for the RAM?
Hello,
Since Dell systems are known to be very picky with memory upgrades, most users here suggest Crucial memory. If you wish to read about Dells picky memory issues and suggestions you can visit my memory pages at my web site listed below.

The reapers will work and if they will not run at 2.1 they will throttle down to 1.8v and run at slightly looser specs.
I believe they will work at 2.1v
