Memory Upgrade

Hi All, I have a Dimension 9150. Came with 1 GB of PC4200 memory (2 x 512MB). Can I upgrade by adding 2GB of PC5300 memory (2 x 1GB) for a total of 3GB, or do I have to put 2 x 512MB in each of the two remaining slots? It is my understanding that there should be no problem combining PC5300 memory with the original memory - the new memory will just run at the slower speed. Would there be any advantage to putting the new, faster memory in the first two slots? Thanks, Danny

Your plan should work fine with compatible memory. Some folks recommend placing the faster memory in the first slots, but I'm not sure it will matter as, like you say, the memory will operate at the PC4200 speeds anyway. Be sure you obtain "guaranteed compatible" memory, as not just any brand of PC5300 memory will work with Dells.
