Memory failure after hibernation

Once during waking up after hibernation my dell started buzzing, doesn't want to wake up. Pressed power button to reboot. During startup, bios showed info memory configuration changed. I entered bios, chart shows 2gb of my 16gb memory is missing. Actually it shows 1 of 8 chips missing. Windows recognizes 14gb now. Is that memory gone? What happened. Is hibernation dangerous? Shall i change my windows power management settings not to hibernate?

Hi,

Hibernation does not affect the memory on the system. I’d suggest you to reseat the memory module(s) one at time in each slot and run the diagnostics on the memory to figure out the faulty one. To run the diagnostics please use the link below.

bios clearly shows one module missing. is physical replacement necessary? or maybe rescanning can fix the error?

Hi

Request you to follow the below steps.

  1. Remove all the memory modules.
  2. Clean it with a soft cloth.
  3. Input each module one at a time and check if the memory issue fixes.

Please let me know if this helps.
