The family pack is windows 7 home premium.

XP MODE only works on Windows 7 PRO or ULTIMATE.

You can upgrade to ultimate after installing Home premium for an additional charge.

I would suggest a Radeon HD 4650 PCI-E video card.

There are no dell specific drivers for WIN7 on the 8400.

You will likely need to install the audio driver in administrator mode with XP compatability.

There is no XP upgrade windows will be moved into WINDOWS.OLD

Virtual PC 2007 DOES NOT RUN on WIN7.

XPMODE is the replacement for Virtual PC 2007.

What is the operating system?

The Dimension 8400 are support SATA internal, 3.5", 7200rpm hard drives, up to 2tb in size.

Yes, the 8400 can have the hard drives upgraded/replaced

The Dimension 8400 has two internal 3.5' drive bays, that any SATA 3.5" hard drives can be installed in, as noted in my previous post, it also has a 3.5" bay for a floppy drive and two 5.25" optical drive bays.

The Dimension 8400 owner's service manual, together with the specifications can be found here:
