NVidia GT440 1.5GB card in XPS 8100

Is this a doable matchup?

Replace ATI Radeon 5450 1 GB Graphics card with NVidia GT 440 1.5GB Graphics card in XPS Studio 8100 desktop

Configuration:

350W PSU (Standard)

6GB RAM - 2X2G, 2X1G

i7-860 2.8 GHz Lynnfield processor

750GB Hitachi, HDD

DVD Drive

Win7 Home Premium

I don't want to have problems with power over the long haul; do I need to upgrade the PSU, or get a lesser graphics card?

Thanks much!

The PSU will be fine with the GT 440.

You can actually get a better graphics card.  The Radeon HD 6670 is better than the GT 440.  That would be my choice in this price range, but it's up to you.  The GT 440 only uses around 60 watts at most and the HD 6670 uses less and gives you better performance.  If the reason for your upgrade is gaming, the HD 6670 is not bad.  However, the best you can get is the new HD 7750 that just came out.  It is a great card and uses very little power.  It does not even require an additional power connection.  I am pretty sure that your 350 watt unit has the 6-pin PCIe power cable for cards that require it though.

Thanks so much for the response, Kelbear1,

The main point of the question is whether the PSU will accommodate the GPU.

Looking at NVIDIA's graphics card selector tool, if I choose 350W PSU, $0-150, main use - "everyday home computing applications and HD video playback", and "dual-slot 6.6 inch" for size of graphics card the PC will accommodate, it brings back the GT440 as one of the choices, so I think I am good to go.

The computer I was working on has business data on it, been unavailable almost two days and they were anxious to get it back up.  The only place locally to pick up a GPU had three of these and no other PCI-e cards.

If they someday want to do some heavier graphics, they are set to go...
