Network Adapter Driver Improperly Installed

I have a Dell xps 8300 running Windows 7 and I frequently get the message "Network Adapter Driver Improperly Installed" message. I see other posting that indicate this is very common but the fix is not clear. Is this a driver issue? Is this a hardware issue? I have tried loading a new driver but the instructions do not lead to any result that makes me think a new driver was installed. I downloaded and exectured the program brcmsetup.exe but it does not seem to do anything. It just says that the program is installed but does not mention any driver.Does it matter where the program is located?

Remove the driver from the list and have Windows 7 updates detect it. Then download the driver from their and then install.

Thank you for your input. I repeatedly deleated and reinstalled the driver. This did not fix the problem, other than on occasion there was a temprary restoratiion. I finally fully resolved this problem by changing the power settings to not never allow the computer to go to sleep. I believe this show that the problem is a software problem. It is likely a problem with the driver but I am certainly not qualify to make that statement.
