New BIOS for higher processor

Hello,

is it possible to change the BIOS of a Dimension 9200?

I want to change the CPU,so I need a BIOS.

My BIOS support only CPUs with a front side bus of 1066 MHz.

The new Dell PCs have sometimes a CPU with a fsb of 1333 MHz or 1600 MHz.

Can I change the BIOS or the Motherboard?

but can I take a dell motherboard from new Dell PCs which supports a 1333 MHz fsb?

I heard that Dell motherboards have an another size than normal motherboards.

At least in the Dimension 9200.

So can I take a XPS motherboard for example?

A bios update doesn't add support for higher front side bus speeds. This would take a new motherboard.

As for what fits in the case I can't comment.

I can tell you though that if you switch to a non-Dell motherboard you'll need to buy a new copy of Windows too, as the Dell copy is only license for the Dell system/motherboard.

It is far easier to move to a new pc. You can move your parts that will fit if you want. Sell/pass down the old carcass.
