No sound on XPS 8900 w/ BOSE Systems 2 speakers

My three-month old XPS8900 stopped providing sound through these speakers yesterday (Sat).  I checked the speakers on my I-phone and they worked.  I ran the diagnostics found on Dell's webpage and in other places.  They didn't show anything awry; the DirectX diagnostic tool also showed all is good.  The volume isn't on mute nor are the speakers unplugged.

As some might know, the BOSE system 2 speakers don't have an LED showing power. You just plug and play.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

The Bose speakers have the on / off switch in the volume control. If volume is all the way down the speakers are OFF.  They also require external power.  If headphones are plugged into the jack below the knob the speakers are disabled.

These are Analog speakers so they would have no bearing on drivers or show up in the device manager.

In the box

  • Powered speaker
  • Accessory speaker
  • Audio input cable with mini-plug
  • Speaker cable
  • AC power pack
