No sound

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 and I recently had to reformat it.  After days of loading everything I am back up and running. The only problem that I know of is that I can't get any sound from my speakers.  I am running Windows XP media.  Can anyone help?

thanks

That sounds like the usual "skipped the chipset drivers" problem.  The required install sequence on a new/reinstall is (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset drivers (3) Install device drivers such as sound, video, ethernet, etc.

The Intel chipset drivers define (identify) all the hardware devices on or attached to the motherboard.   Usually, when they are missed you can install the chipset drivers and then the sound and everything will work.  In a few isolated cases it will take a new and correct sequence install to get everything working.

HERE is the Dell chipset driver download.
