Optiplex 755 Bios update failure
Hello,
I am having a Dell Optiplex 755 system, I am facing 3 serious problems in it..
1. My first problem is that my system automatically Starts up without pressing the Power ON button on my system, whenever i plug in my Power cable, it automatically switches ON & doesn't give out the Video-out display on my Monitor. The system is showing the LED indicator lights of 3 & 4 only and the system fan is also making some extra Noise and did not start up, then i have to hold the power ON button for some time, it helps in shutting down the system & then again I have to switch ON the system again. So it is fault in my system.
2. My Second problem was that, currently my system was running on BIOS version A12 and i want to update the latest BIOS version to A22, I have also downloaded the A22 file, but when I am running it in system Administrator mode It restarts the system to install the file, but I got an Error message that -
BIOS update failed! Could not find the firmware image in memory.
I keep downloading different-different versions like A19 version also, but i got the same error message. So please help me out from this trouble in a very step by step process, so please help me out.
3. My third problem was that, when i power ON the system, so a black screen was present onto the screen & a small cursor was blinking on the very top left corner of the screen. I have to wait for around 2-3 minutes, after it my system got started and then the windows logo comes up.
so please help me out from all of this problems as soon as possible. I am running on Windows 7 64-bit O.S.

One thing that might be worth trying is to replace the CMOS (CR2032) battery and then try updating the BIOS again.

I asked for help on the Rockstar board and got this reply from one of the other Rockstars:
There could be a problem with his NVRAM not receiving the updated binary packages. If his existing BIOS is corrupt, he may need to force a crisis recovery flash, but I would never recommend that procedure to an average consumer due to the risk involved.
What works for clearing out the NVRAM on the new Alienware systems with Secure Flash is to pull out all system memory and power the machine up. All it to fail POST and begin beeping until it turns itself off. Very swiftly, before I powers up again, slap one memory module in. It will then beep with a memory error code. Turn the machine off and then it will POST and load everything fresh into NVRAM space. This involves some risk as well. Have to be careful to avoid ESD, but it is the ONLY available solution to get one of the new Alienware machines to POST when the NVRAM gets corrupted.

The CMOS chip could just be damaged. No fix for this. Replace the motherboard.

I too have exactly the same problem.
OptiPlex 755, A12 bios, can't be upgraded. and the annoying blinking cursor on startup.
By the amount of people having exactly the same issue, I find it hard to believe it is a hardware problem.
Simply *** support. perhaps it is because we are running win 7 and not xp.
Dell don't really like to update their support foe older hardware.
Just buy a different brand next time.
