Optiplex 980 Sound plays on both internal speaker and attached (external 2.1 speakers)

New Dell Optiplex 980 Win. 7 64 bit (SSD) and having diffy with my computer speakers and playing the onboard / internal speaker that both play at the same time.

.I've updated the Realtek High Definition driver and believe system is up to date on everything else. Would this be a matter of just disabling the onboard speaker?

Thanks.

You could just disconnect the internal speaker cable from the motherboard.

But first,
* Right click the speaker icon on the taskbar
* Click Playback devices
* List all that you see
* Which one has the green check and is the Default Device?

Thanks Chris,

I was thinking an option of whether a sound card could be added to this motherboard if to enahnce or improve sound? That depends probably on the mobo and it's onboard or integrated sound from the motherboard?
