Optiplex GX620 Windows XP Sysprep issue

I have a custom build  Windows XP SP2 image which supports the below hardware:

[Latitude] D410,D420,D430,D610,D620,D630,D830,E4200,E4300,E6400,X1
[Optiplex] GX150,GX260,GX270,GX280,GX620,745,755,760

Just last month I added driver support to this image for the Optiplex 780. It installs perfectly fine for all of the above except...the GX620 for some odd reason (it used to install fine on the GX620 before the new drivers were added). When the install completes and the OS attempts to boot, it freezes momentarily at the Windows XP logo and progress bar screen, then restarts. It can get to the desktop in safe mode (but hangs at mup.sys for quite a while).

The only thing I did to this image was add the Optiplex 780 drives to the .WIM file and update the DevicePath (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion) in the registry. It seems apparent that the addition of the 780 drivers are the likely cause...but why? I don't want to have to create a separate build simply to support the GX620.

Has anyone here else experienced this, and if so, have you had any luck getting around this or found a definitive fix? Thanks.

Same here. Image worked perfectly for GX620 before I added 780 drivers. No other changes than the drivers in latest image. This image fails for GX620 now. Any body have further information on this? Thanks.

Stumbled across this on the web its very late by now but in case anyone browses heres what I had to do....

When adding a folder of drivers for the dell 780 there is a file called ich78ide.inf and ich78id2.inf.  Both of the files contain information that the dell 620 find acceptable and will use these files files for installation and not use the driver files from before. you'll need to open the files with notepad and remove the hardware id's of the dell 620 board. it was a long guid ending in 27c0 this guid is in  (i think) 2 places in both files. rmoving this line will make the driver incompatable with the 620 and it will now only work with the 780. you can confirm you have this issue if the system boots fine when you have the ide cd-rom disconnected.

Hope this helps someone out.

Brucee2,

Thank you!   I've been banging my head against this for a month!  You've saved me much pain, I owe you.

I have this same problem.  Verified with the cdrom disconnect suggestion.

Did you have to remove 27c0 and 27df entries or just 27c0 entries?

I deleted them both because when I booted without the CD-ROM enabled I had both of those board references listed in device manager.   May have been overkill but it worked.

And just to give some more detail, which drivers are you using for the 27c0 and 27df entries.  I am using the latest GX620 drivers from dell.com.  (R132539)

I'll need to check when I'm in the office tomorrow. My problem probably stems from the fact that we add all the drivers to our image for more than 30 different models and then have them detect the drivers they need during plug/play. I was adding a chipset for a newer Dell model and this Gx was detecting this bogus assignment. I need to move the xp image to MDT like I do with W7.
