PCI card pin count

Looking at one of two new desktops for the wife. Both the E520 and E521 have 2 PCI card connector slots, E520 with an Intel Pentium IV is 120 pins and the E521 with an AMD Athalon 64 X2 Dual Core is 124 pins. My newest desktop (9200) with an Intel Dual Core has 3 120 pin card slots. Is there something different about the AMD that requires 124 pin PCI cards?

Her current system, a Dimension 8100, has a couple of 120 pin cards but will they work in the 124 pins slots?

What's the big difference? I hate to buy a new machine and find she can't use her current PCI audio or network card.  I know both come with integrated Ethernet network cards but the one in my 9200 didn't connect correctly and I reused my PCI card based NIC and want to make sure I have that option with hers as well.

Appreciate any help.
