RE: PN for the primary heatsink in a T7500?

Oddly this still seems to be somewhat unanswered.

If this is an answer to my question - I was asking about BIOS upgrade πŸ˜‰

No - it was really just an update to this thread which is about heatsinks. On yours, personally I'd say the latest bios version is generally the best choice. Bios updates add support for newer processors as well as fix bugs and other issues and sometimes also add new features.

Quick question - what version of the BIOS should I install for x5650 ??

OK, I'll answer to myself πŸ™‚

Updated today to A16 - the latest version - and was able to post to BIOS with 1x x5650.

Haven't tried to go all the way to Windows 7 - just in case 1x CPU will do something bad to OS.

Right now - the same 2x x5570 as before the update - are still working perfectly fine πŸ™‚

Motherboard - D881F.

If it helps or matters.... I just upgraded mine from a single X5667 (4 core 3.06gz) to dual X5650 (6 core 2.66ghz) with no problem on BIOS A16.

What temps are your processors working at? I have dual x5650s as well but one of them is running hot, but the primary does have the low end T021F heatsink on it. Do you have the U016F heatsink on your primary cpu? Thanks a bunch

Thanks Speedstep, I understand the riser heatsink and fan is the same no matter which mobo or cpu is installed. My problem is my primary x5650 cpu is over heating with the T021F heatsink. So in talking with Dell, one problem could be my mobo is wrong as it is the older one D883F rather than CRH6C. The other is I would need the "performance" heatsink for that primary cpu (U016F). Can anyone confirm this? Mine overheats to 88C in just 7 minutes and then the fan starts kicking up but only cooling it down to low 80C. The Tcase for these cpu's are 81.25C. Thanks a bunch

T021F is the Aluminum Heatsink and its not for higher power processors.  More specific information would come from Dell.

I'm not Dell.

U106F is for the 3500 5500 7500

W715F is the Shroud/Fan over the Heatsink on the 5500.

"W715F is the Shroud/Fan over the Heatsink on the 5500"

Yeah that's for the riser board cpu. I got the performance heatsink U016F on order so will see if that will fix the problem. Too bad there is no shroud around the primary heatsink like on the 7500.
